Earlier today, Marvelous! announced via their website blog, that the latest installment in their sexy ninja franchise; Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash will be receiving a UK, European and Australian release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 this coming summer (winter for Australia).
Peach Beach Splash went gold in February, weeks before it’s March 16th release date, and with Senran Kagura fans and anime-game fans in the west chomping at the bit to give this game a go, I can imagine pretty decent sales on this side of the pond too.
This is a very different game from other games in the main series, rather than the school versus school, action beat em up we’ve come to know and love, Peach Beach Splash has you take the role of one of the girls in a water gun tournament, hinted at during the finale of Senran Kagura: Estival Versus. From there, you and the rest of your team of five, take on other teams to win the coveted prize, in a funny and sexy, Team Fortress meets Splatoon kinda game.
I’ve not played a lot of shooters online, Team Fortress was probably the last one I played with any kind of seriousness, and when it comes to Senran Kagura, I play it for the plot. Ahem. However, this game has got me pretty excited to play online shooters again, I dare say even more so than Splatoon 2, but that’s probably due to the plethora of characters I’ve come to love over the past games in the series. Speaking of, characters from Senran Kagura New Wave will also be included in this game, pushing the character total to well over thirty!
My hopes for the future is that Peach Beach Splash comes to Nintendo Switch. I believe the game would greatly benefit from the Switch’s motion controls in hand held mode, for precision aiming during those life or death water gun fights. The original Senran Kagura and Senran Kagura Deep Crimson, were both released on the 3DS so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility. It would also be pretty cool in my opinion to see those original games redone for a more powerful system, using the engine of the later games. When I asked Marvelous Games via Twitter if there was any news on Peach Beach Splash coming to the Switch, they said it was currently only seeing release on the PS4, though this photo from March 9th, makes me think I shouldn’t be holding my breath…
UPDATE: XSEED also confirm Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash for North American release!
Peace and High Scores!
